IWD has been observed since the early 1900's, a time of great expansion and unrest in the industrialized world that saw booming population growth and the surge of radical ideologies.
It is a time to reflect on progress made, to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities.
Women for Women International is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization which provides women survivors of war, civil strife and other conflicts with the tools and resources to move from crisis and poverty to stability and self-sufficiency. For more details, please visit: www.womenforwomen.org
Thank you so much to everyone who came out to celebrate International Women's Day!
As I was holding one of my best friend's beautiful baby girls and thinking of the ten people I know who have had a baby girl this past year...I kept thinking about the world we are creating for these future superwomen. The generations before us have fought so hard to bring the women's movement to where we are today. We have made great strides but there is so much more to be done. Somewhere along the way the title "feminist" got a bad reputation. Feminism is simply the belief that women should have the same social, political, legal and economic rights as men. I know many amazing feminists - male & female of all ages and all backgrounds. It is a title to embrace.
Thank you for keeping feminism part of the social dialogue and supporting organizations that are continuing to fight for progress!

Dawn Hurley of Shona Congo has confirmed they will be at our March 8th fundraiser with a collection of their artisan products! The profits from the sales of these beautiful handcrafted items go directly to the women in Eastern Congo who made them.
"SHONA creates the opportunity for 4 talented young women to bring their handcrafted work directly to you. It is this direct, person-to-person connection, that we believe matters deeply. And we believe it matters all the more deeply because of who these women are and where they live. The voices of young disabled women in Eastern Congo are rarely heard in the global community, and we aim to change that. "
